Embark on an epic adventure in this storytelling icebreaker.

The Heroic Journey is an exercise that helps leaders identify a time of perseverance and triumph in their career and provides a forum to share their experience with others in the context of connecting on a deeper personal level.

How to use this template

Activity instructions

  1. Download our template and review the instructions.

  2. Make copies of the Heroic Journey handout.

  3. Instruct participants that they will be completing an exercise in which they will describe one of their own heroic journeys as a leader.

  4. Participants will use the Hero’s Journey worksheet to write their story using the prompts provided within a 15-minute time limit.

  5. Each executive should share their story from their Hero’s Journey worksheet and answer questions from other group members about lessons learned from the experience.
